Staying Efficient and Sane While Working from Home

Working from home can either be your new-found sanctuary or your worst nightmare, it's all about your mindset. Yes, there are a new set of challenges to consider in remote-life, your kids might be driving you up the wall, maybe you're having a hard time focusing with so many added distractions, or possibly you're just finding it more difficult than expected to transition from the office to working at home.

Below are some tips to help you stay on track, efficient and sane while working from home.

1. Designate Your Own Workspace

Some of us are lucky enough to have an actual home office to work out of but sadly not everyone has the comforts of a squishy office chair and a desk to call their own. It is important however to set some sort of space aside just for work to help with the transition from a traditional office. This will help keep you productive because it's easier to differentiate "work" time from "play" time.

2. Don't Isolate Yourself

Yes, you may be confined to your house at the moment but now is the time to utilize technology to its fullest! Make sure to schedule regular check-ins with your coworkers to stay in the loop with important tasks. Video chats are all the rage right now for a reason!

3. Get a Routine

Of course, it's easy to roll out of bed much later than usual nowadays and fall into the mindset that you can "just do it later", but trust me, setting some sort of routine for yourself will keep yourself accountable and productive in these uncertain times. That doesn't necessarily mean every minute of your day needs to be structured and planned out, hello, there is a benefit to not having to clock in and clock out right now but don't overdo it. Balance is key to making sure you stay efficient and meet deadlines but stay sane as well.

4. Take Breaks

As mentioned above, having some sort of routine will really help with overall productivity but don't forget to take breaks too! Have a hard time remembering to turn it off? Set an actual timer and allow yourself a break every so often where you physically get up and leave your workspace, it can be whatever system works best for you!

5. Allow Some Grace

A lot of people have been thrown into a remote working situation right now and if you're having a hard time, trust me, you're not alone. Allow yourself some grace during this time and don't take it too hard if you're still trying to get into the swing of things!

Remember, we're all in this together and hopefully, these simple tips provide you with a little peace of mind on how to get through it while staying productive and sane!
